こんにちは。ダニエル・ルイス・ハンコックです。
ダニエル、ダン、ダニーと呼んでください。
私はメルトン・モーブレイと呼ばれるイギリスの小さなマーケットタウンで育ちました。たくさんの丘と農場に囲まれた古い町です。
ウェールズのアベリストウィス大学で英文学を学びました。発音がとても難しい大学名ですね。英国には、ウェールズ語、コーニッシュ語、ゲール語など、英語よりもはるかに古い言語がいくつかあります。ウェールズでは、ウェールズ語が多くの人々によって話されており、彼らの町や都市の名前はウェールズ語です。アベリストウィスは英語で「イストウィス川の河口」という意味です。
大学では、アウトドアに夢中になりました。毎週末、ウェールズの田園地帯をハイキングやロッククライミングに行きました。
大学卒業後、私は5年間台湾で英語を教えていました。とても貴重な体験でした。私はたくさんの友達を作り、文化や自分の文化について教える方法について多くを学びました。
2014年に日本に引っ越してきました。日本には素晴らしい文化、おいしい料理、美しい田舎、そして親切な人々がいると思います。松本に3年間住んだ後、上田に引っ越しました。長野県の山が大好きで、よくハイキングに出かけます。日本に来てから日本語を学び始めました。日本語は面白い言語だと思います。また、少しだけですが日本語を理解することでみなさまへより良いレッスンを提供できるようになりました。
私が英語を教えることで生徒のみなさまが進歩を感じることができ、自分自身の英語力に自信を持てるようにサポートできることに幸せとやりがいを感じます。
Hello, my name is Daniel Louis Hancock, but you can call me Daniel, Dan or Danny.
I grew up in a small market town in England called Melton Mowbray. It`s an old town, surrounded by lots of hills and farms.
I studied English Literature at Aberystwyth University in Wales. The name looks very difficult to say. In the UK, there are some very old languages, a lot older than English such as Welsh, Cornish and Gaelic. In Wales, Welsh is spoken by many people and their towns and cities are in Welsh. Aberystwyth translates to English as `the mouth of the river Ystwyth`.
At university I developed a passion for the outdoors. I went hiking and rock climbing around the Welsh countryside every weekend.
After university I lived in Taiwan for 5 years teaching English. It was a great and valuable experience. I made many friends and learnt a lot about culture and how to teach about my own culture.
In 2014 I moved to Japan. I feel Japan has amazing culture, delicious food, incredible countryside and friendly kind people. I lived in Matsumoto for three years, then moved to Ueda. I love the mountains in Nagano prefecture and try to go hiking often. I started learning Japanese when I came to Japan and I find the language interesting. I feel understanding just a little Japanese has helped me improve my teaching to Japanese students.
Teaching English has been a rewarding experience for me. I always feel delighted to see my students progress and become more confident with their understanding of English.
